Winter Skills Weekend
Learn the techniques required to become a safe winter walker. Our courses are run by qualified, experienced Winter Mountain Leaders in the stunningly beautiful Lochaber area, easily accessible from Glasgow.
A maximum instructor/student ratio of 1:6 will ensure that by the end of the course you will have the confidence and skills to safely take to the winter hills on your own.
Equipment hire (Axe, crampons and helmet) can be arranged locally, if required.

Itinerary
Duration: 3 days
Friday
Arrive at your accommodation. Meet your instructor for an informal discussion about the course content.
Saturday
After breakfast we will depart for the Nevis range. Subjects covered today will include: Equipment choice, walking techniques, safe and correct use of ice axe, boot and axe placement, self-arrest techniques, crampon techniques and avalanche awareness.
We return to your accommodation around 4 pm for some well earned refreshments and an opportunity for you to discuss the day's events with the team.
Sunday
Again, after breakfast we depart for the mountains. Today's topics include: Route selection, weather, avalanche assessment, refining axe/crampon technique, movement on steeper terrain, and micro-navigation.
After an opportunity to revisit any aspect of the weekend's instruction we finish around 4 pm.
