Adventure 7

Dizzy Heights

Britain's finest ridge-walk? We think so but why not decide for yourself? Oh, and did we mention Britain's highest mountain too? Not a weekend for the faint of heart! The Aonach Eagach ridge forms an imposing and spectacular wall on the northern side of Glen Coe. The name translates from the Gaelic for "notched ridge" and is one of the most aspired to walks in Britain. This adventure includes the monarch of British mountains, Ben Nevis.

Grade: 4

Itinerary

Duration: 3 days

Friday - Arrive in Glasgow from where, if you request, you will be driven to your accommodation in the Glencoe area.

Saturday - After breakfast we head off for an 8 mile traverse of The Aonach Eagach ridge (967m/3172ft). This is the most spectacular ridge walk in Scotland and a good head for heights is required, as we will be scrambling over some very exposed terrain, including rock pinnacles, buttresses, slabs and gullies. The view is, however its own reward, with such a high concentration of mountains in the surrounding area. After descending we will head for the famous Clachaig Inn for refreshment, before a short drive back to your accommodation for the night.

Sunday - A full day spent walking up Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis (1344m/4406ft), via the Carn Mor Dearg arête. Again, a good head for heights is needed as the route is rough and stony, with some easy scrambling required. On completion we will head back to Glencoe to toast our endeavours over dinner.

Monday - a chance to recover! Some sightseeing or light walking around Loch Lomond before returning you to Glasgow for your onward journey. If requested, Sunday and Monday can be reprogrammed to allow a days recovery between both summits.

PLEASE NOTE: Extra days for sightseeing or additional activities can be added to all of our adventures. We would be more than happy to discuss your requirements.
