Navigation Training
Our navigation courses work on a maximum ratio of 1:8, which allows our instructors to spend time with each individual. By the time you leave us you will have practised all the skills and techniques required to make you a confident navigator.
Our courses take place in Central Scotland, within easy reach of Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.

Itinerary
Duration: 3 days
Day One - Arrive at your comfortable accommodation.
Day Two - After a hearty Scottish breakfast you will be collected from your accommodation and we head into the mountains overlooking the stunning Loch Tay, where the course commences. Your first day's instruction will include orientation, map scales, grid references and how to plot them, contour interpretation, basic compass work, interpretation of features on the ground, plotting and walking on bearings. On completion you will be returned to your accommodation for dinner.
Day Three - Training commences again after breakfast. Today will be a full day on the mountain covering such subjects as route planning, judging distance through timing and pacing, micro navigation, actions to take if you become lost and re-location techniques plus discussion of the pros and cons of GPS use. We aim to finish around 4 pm.

Equipment Requirements
Whilst not exhaustive, the equipment lists contain items which we consider essential for safe mountain walking. You should also bring personal medicines, toiletries and personal items to make your stay in your accommodation more comfortable.
